“SOUTHERN Gateway to the Appalachians

  

 

Cleburne County is a small rural county nestled in the mountains surrounded by portions of the Talladega National forest and beautiful Cheaha Mountain which is

the highest point in Alabama.

 

Approximately one third of the county is in the Talladega National Forest, which offers family camping, hunting, fishing, and picnicking.  It is also home to the Pinhoti Trail, seventy-three miles of some of the nation’s best hacking.

  

Located in Central East Alabama, Cleburne County is midway between Birmingham and Atlanta approximately 80 miles from the fastest growing markets in the nation.

 

The county borders Georgia on the east, Randolph and Clay Counties on the south, Talladega and Calhoun on the west and Cherokee on the north.

 

Heflin is the County seat and is located on Interstate 20 and the main truckline of Southern Railway, both running from Birmingham to Atlanta

east and west.

 

Cleburne County is comprised of four incorporated communities:  Edwardsville, Fruithurst, Heflin and Ranburne.

 

An Alabama Welcome Center is located in Cleburne County about eight miles east of Heflin and about three miles west of the Alabama- Georgia line on Interstate 20.
